Ohh yeah I do see your logic of you using what is working for
you.My situation is a bit different .I did not go with Gecko drives
because my servo motors are higher voltage than the Geckos are rated
to output.And my other old cnc mill that I will upgrade later has
even larger servo motors so working through this upgrade will teach
me quite a bit about what I'll need to know to do the other mill ,
which is a much more complicated machine.
I am not going to use Mach2 controller because it takes a Microsoft
OS that I dont have or want.

Now I will say that I need to build a cnc cutoff saw..I am working
to begin manufacturing a product requiring a lot of short pieces of
3/4" brass tube,1/4" square , and 5/16" round stainless steel..For
that cnc project, small steppers and Geckos would be more than
adequate.

components for CNC make the build and resulting machine very pleasant
and reliable. They all work together for very smooth and predictable
operation. I had very little prior electronics experience when I put
mine together and it was easy. Just follow the directions and they
are practically plug and play. Each of these manufacturers seem to be
diligently upgrading and perfecting their products. Making them even
better than they already are. I'm going to do another one and I'll be
using the exact same configuration. I can't say from limited
experience if its the best route but I stick with what works.
