Okay Ron
I see now ,from what you've said ,that I could have used Gecko
Drives on the machine I am working on..I didnt know that..You got my
curiousity up so I went and looked at the z axis servo motor on the
other mill.It says 151 volts at 9 amps..What servo drives would you
suggest for that machine?
Thanks again..
Steven

(4.2" dia X 17" long) servos with 30 amp peak torque. You can run
higher voltage servos with a Gecko limiting them to the Geckos
capacity and sacrifice a bit of speed and not lose any torque
providing your power supply can deliver the amps required for the
continual rating of the servos. Stall torque is irrelevant because
the motor would fry anyway. I just fused the drives at 15 amps. 15
months of use and it has never stalled, blown a fuse or lost a step.
The servos are delivering 5 hp at the screw. And rapids of 120 ipm
are the norm.
