I agree, there is no reason you should not be able to run Linux and connect
to the Internet. Internet protocols are standardized and many of the
machines on the Internet are Unix and Linux boxes. I run a TCP/IP network at
home with Windows98, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Win NT 4.0, Windows 2000,
and Linux. The systems are all able to connect to the Internet and either of
the ISP dialups I use work fine.
I think you ran into someone that doesn't know how or is instructed not to
provide support for Linux. Not that you can't make it work.
