So, I'd be really interest to hear if anyone has managed to turn CNC at home
into something they can make something back from.
John: I built my first CNC lathe in '79, and my second in '84. The third
was done about Christmas of '99. First no longer exists, and second "works"
but has only an old PET to control it, and I MUST find time to change over to
an old laptop (no need for a "full-blown" PC). #3 and #4 were designed for
control from a PC (parallel printer-port), and one of those twins is in OH
earning a living. The other twin is here, doing well, making custom pipe-organ
drawknobs. That's about as esoteric as one can get, what? Most of my "knob
turnery" is in USA, but of that installed in several foreign countries, more
is in England than all others combined. As I built these machines myself,
paying NO wages, and being VERY frugal and "inventive", they have paid for
themselves within a year or 18 months.
I built a PCB drill in '84, and must also change it to PC control, rather
than the ancient PET now connected to it. My last "backup PET" died, so it is
TIME, already! That drills about 40 holes per minute.
Pictures of BOTH toys on on the "Homebrew" folder in the second group (page)
of 16 of PHOTOS on the CAD_CAM_... site. It'd be nice to know what you
think of the pics!
