Hi All:
I seem to recall talking about this issue a year or so ago.
At that time I broached the subject of sticking in a pulse monitoring
program that keeps track of the last set of pulses, say for argument's sake,
the last million and that can be invoked directly by a defined set of
conditions (sense reversed of course, so the path is correctly backed up
along).
I'd thought to have this little count and record program continuously
piggybacking along, doing nothing except keeping a running tally, until the
set conditions are reached, then calling main program temporary stop, run
piggyback in reverse, run piggyback forward, then resume main program.
This avoids the complexities of making the Gcode itself, run in reverse, but
still allows the path to be programmed with G code and the motion along that
path to be dominated by cut conditions rather than programmed feedrate.
Since a wire EDM really only needs to stop or back up until cutting
conditions improve, there's no sense running any large distance in
reverse...only very small hesitations are needed, and the pulse stream that
"just was", contains all the needed information to reverse the motion
without needing origin, destination and "motion type" information like G
code does.
Someone mentioned that the required movement along the desired path be
something like the Cha-Cha...that, to my mind describes the needed motion
perfectly.
Of course, I haven't the faintest idea how to go about programming this, but
I'm sure there's lots of you out there for whom this would be a trivial
undertaking.
Forgive me if this has already been discussed in this thread...my eyes tend
to glaze over when the discussion gets arcane, and I probably missed it as
it went by.
Cheers

Marcus
