I've just read the little book, "build an EDM" by Robert Langlois, and he has
an ingenious solution for this. He forgoes SW altogether and uses a dedicated
printed circuit board with logic circuits that monitor the voltage of the EDM
and jogs the electrode stepper accordingly. It's really an elegant solution.
I'd go into detail, but I respect Mr. Langlois' reliance on his publication for
income generation. I've given the gist of the idea and someone could re-invent
the process, but if you wanted to have a printed circuit board layout for easy
building, plus have his electrode head construction details, the book is at -

relatively simple hardware trumps programing in my book.
