I recently did one of these. Mine is an '80 with the variable speed
head, with a Bandit I by Summit.

I kept all of the drive logic from the Summit. I ripped out the
processor (an old 6502) and interfaced directly to the 3 ribbin cables
in the Summit bandit. They are optically isolated quadrature outputs.
I chose to put a step/dir interface on mine which generates the quadrature
outputs, but it's possible that you don't have to even put geckos on it.

(I know you said you want a package deal, but some part of me can't
hardly see a fella' replace a perfectly good setup with another
more expensive one :) )

Does yours have the #30 taper spindle and power drawbar as well?
(I'm not sure how standard the Bandit reworks were...)
