I think the rectifier comment while applicable to inrush current was
more directed to steady-state.

Higher capacitance reduces the ripple AND reduces phase duration of the
conducting rectifier. To deliver the same power in a shorter phase
duration, the rectifier will be required to pass larger (but shorter)
current pulse to the capacitors.

Well, no, I believe he died some years back. Mr. John Guess. He was a
great teacher, though I confess that I have forgotten much of what I
learned.

After reading this thread, I realize that I was right, but for the wrong

reasons. PS caps CAN be too large. Large caps filter low frequencies
(like 120 Hz from the wall) just fine, but don't deal with the HF stuff
as well due to internal resistance.
