I would use non embedding lapping compound such as Timesaver. I used it to
lap out the high spot on my poorly built mill/drill. It works great. I have
used this brand for about 30 years on different jobs. I still treasure
having a can of the yellow Timesaver for soft materials and Green Timesaver
for hard materials. Do a search on Google and a source for it should come
up.
