Almost all the parts I've pulled from them have good part numbers.
numbers that can be found on digi-key's site and that means access to
data sheets.

As for the generic use, 5 volts and 10mA to the optics and 5 volts and
a simple npn transistor on the output should make it work without any
problems.

Also, most of them have either wires, often 3 wires, or plugs.

Very common and simple parts.
