Hi,

The problem you are all overlooking is that the aluminium extrusion is
oscillating by adding oil, water, and soggy teddy bears is not going to
remove the energy in the oscillation.
The best method is to put a 1/4 wavelength stub at the point of maximum
oscillation, something like a stiff spring a length of stiff wire and adjust
a weight that you can slide up and down the rod, at some point of both
length and weight the oscillation will stop!!

Now do not ask about the maths or length of rod.....you can tell me that!!

What about using motor oil ? Does the weight of the motor oil help in this
experiment ?
