I been reading messages on this group for about a year now. I might
have posted twice. The question wondering about cnc'ing the old
bridgeport perked my ears up..I am at the end stage of changing a 20
year old cnc Hurco bedmill, upgraded to new servo drives ,computer,
breakout board , spindle board, relay board,,what am i forgetting--
ohh new VFD spindle drive- some other stuff...Anyway,,,It just a
matter of tearing out almost everything electronic and going back
with new,,but I am into my second week of work... I am enjoying the
project but I am certainly aware that by working on a mill that had
previously been a cnc I have saved considerable work.....And
incidently, this had been a good cnc until it tipped over on it's
control cabinet during a move..I paid the guy 400 bucks for it and
hauled it home , was only 25 miles from my house.Would be real tough
to find a manual mill in good mechanical condition for anywhere near
as fair price.Hard to beat it....Well then last winter I dragged home
a 5720 pound Miyano cnc lathe with a dead controller- 500 bucks...One
of these days I'll try upgrading that one to run Mach2 on a PC...Ohhh
yeah,,, then I got a 5000 pound Acroloc cnc bedmill with original
Fanuc controls - runs good , I have used the hell outta it for 4
years, only paid 900 bucks for it.....The old machines are out there
selling cheap enough , see them on ebay almost everytime I look..
