A couple of years ago, I read somewhere that MDF is porous enough that
you can provide a vacuum right through it with a ShopVac - no need to
drill millions of holes in your bed.

If that's true, that would make it easy to replace sacrificial surfaces.

Anyone tried this?

I had thought about the idea for PCB work where one drills holes,
potentially losing the vacuum.

One way it to have a valve that will seat itself with high air flow.
so it would close itself off when a drill hole opened it to air.

I also thought about countersinking all the holes and dropping in
flat head screws. they could be O-ring type so would seal any unused
sections.

remove the vacuume and they could come out with a magnet. ( no brass
or stainless.)
