I also notice that Logitech has optical mice up to 1600 dpi
resolution. If it was the optical sensor you were referring to that
outputs the A/B pulses, then perhaps this could be used to some extent
as an encoder replacement for CNC control.

My main interest would be in using the mouse for a simple 2 axis DRO,
but the ability to do more with it wouldn't hurt.
