Hi Art,
I just built this PIC programmer (also known as DIY149), partly because I needed
one, and partly because I wanted to get my hands on a project with an FT232BM chip.

As mentioned in other posts, this chip allows conversion from RS-232 to USB, and
comes works with a "virtual comm" driver.
I hope to use this "exposure" to USB on the PIC stepper controller project I'm
working on (and in a project for work).
With USB, the GUI for the controller can be written for Windoz, LINUX or
whatever. Of course, the Gecko 2002 (?) will be coming out soon, but it still
makes a good project!
