If you use the BDI 4.30, it is even newer than my update file, so you should
not be using the update, anyway. All the 4.26 - 4.30 BDI's have all the
Pico
systems driver on them, but the latest ones have some other stuff unrelated
to Pico Systems fixed. It mostly has to do with some install issues and
a few
missing files.
OK, so you are putting the update file you got from my web site on a CD,
which you don't need to do. But, if you are putting it on as an ISO
image, that
is your problem. The update is NOT an ISO image (CDROM file system)
and it is not bootable. It just contains some updated and additional files
for the rc46 BDI, to support the Pico Systems boards, and also to have
everything needed to compile EMC. What you would want to do for my
update is to burn it to CD as a FILE, not ISO. Then, you should be able to
open the CD and look in the directory on a Windows PC as well as Linux.
On Windows, you'd just find one file, update.tgz, and it would be about
48 MB
in size. On Linux, you'd be able to use the tar utility to see what was
in it,
test the velidity of the archive, etc.
The instructions to apply the update file are at
http://jelinux.pico-systems.com/update.html
In the instructions, I use the device name /dev/cdrom for the CD drive.
On some
installs, the CD shows up as /dev/cd0 or possibly some other name,
depending on
what type of CD drive you have.
But, as I say, the update.tgz is for BDI Live rc46 ONLY, and you would
do much better
now to use the BDI 4.30 as a start.
What are the specific problems you are having? Were you able to get BDI
4.29 or 4.30
to install on your computer? If so, forget the update, and try to run
with the
USC board. (Note, the executable EMC files from the update most
definitely will NOT run
on the BDI 4.xx OS!)
