Personal experience from having bought lots of CAD/CAM packages from low end
to high end is you get what you pay for. I would have saved a lot of money
if I had just bought a high end package up front. I own/have owned
FeatureCAM, VisualMill, Vector, Dolphin, DeskCNC, STLWorks, MeshCAM, and
more that I am probably forgetting. I am very happy with FeatureCAM and use
it for the largest majority of my work. I occasionally use VisualMill for a
few 3D Rotary things that FeatureCAM does not handle well. I still use
Vector occasionally. The rest basically go unused.

If I could get one idea across it would be that the software is as or more
important then the machine. Don't cheat yourself with a clunker.
