Did your friend install the real-time patches to the kernel? Did he test
the patched kernel with the reat time test programs?

Does it only lock up when EMC is running, or does it lock up when you
DON'T have EMC running? That could make a big difference.

This kind of problem is very unlikely to be the monitor, keyboard or
mouse, so that is no surprise. When you say it locks up, does the screen
just sit there, but you can't affect it in any way, not even move the mouse
cursor? Or, is there some change in the screen, like a window disappears
before it croaks?

What speed CPU is in the computer? Does the mouse response get sluggish
when EMC is running, before it locks up?
