would be a sign of running out of CPU cycles. Period is by default
something like 20 microseconds, so upping it to, say, 50 us with the

might help, although it will reduce the max step rate to half or so.
If this doesn't help, I would suggest forgetting rolling your own OS, and
just download and install the BDI 4.30 CD image from the net.
