I don't know of a kit but I suggest you look at the following sites
that have links, information and tutorials:

These are all good people and groups and would not hesitate to
recommend them.

Many people, and not just engineers, have retrofitted old CNC
machines but you will have to work at it. These groups can be very
helpful if you have the knowledge to ask specific questions but you
won't get much help with general questions like I have a dead
machine, how do I fix it...
