what kind of parts ? could you explain more ?

if these parts looks like 2d1/2 contours ,It's possible to
take a picture from them with a digital camera ,then correct
the fish eye aberations/concave/convex , scale the parts ,print
and compare with the original ,and trace the contours as vectors.

the video utility of Mach3 allow you to check some points with the crosshair
and hand write the coordinates from the dros display (direct inputs are not yet implemented)

For 3d shapes , you need a third software and if you want accurate inputs,
the hardware become costly , if you want to digitalize some large parts ,
you will have to buy a hand hold 3d scanner as Polemeus then work with
a 3d rebuilding soft as ex: 3dreshaper (very good and "low priced"!) or
Rapidform
For little parts as mouse ,cell phones ,etc ,the good deal today come from
Nextengine 3d scanner.(all include ,handly)

Softs as pr-scan or Z-Scan don't permit accurate scanning , but work for
artistic shapes , the job is not "all in the package" ready done....

If someone had software that would allow accurate measurement of parts
by use of camera input only, and perhaps a light, would there be a
market for it?

If it's been done already, I'd be feeling two months' effort level
gratitude if you'd kindly point me to it...
