How about looking into Babbitt Metal:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babbitt_metal

http://www.lindsaybks.com/bks4/babbitt/index.html

Centaur Forge lists it but is currently out of stock:
http://www.centaurforge.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NICK

Magnolia Metal is a manufacturer and have several different alloys:

Old technology but not one to be forgotten. Cheap, durable, commercially
available. What's not to love...
