I don't know where you are Dave, but in the UK there are loads of
Transformers kicking around cheap that are not Rohs compliant (lead free).
Rapid Electronics had loads, I bought my reservoir caps from them, got six
for the price I would have expected to pay for two.

Also in the EU, a CNC machine is a control and measurement system and exempt
from RoHs until 2008

I am told the USA are going RoHs compliant in January so there may be some
cheap stuff over there, though I can find nothing written regarding this
date.

Keep looking.

you can find 55 volt secondaries with 70VA on e-bay.
or even 63 volt 800va transformers. 7540255500
