I agree and hate the UK prices too Steve, I buy loads of things from USA and
China, but a transformer is very heavy to ship.
As a note to those that want a 55V secondary for a gecko drive, the 110V
mains tool isolation transformer I use, the building site ones in a yellow
box, have centre taps, since they normally earth the centre tap.
On mine the tap looks to be the same size as the ends so should be good for
full current.
You would use this with a two diode full wave rectifier, i.e. connect the
tap to your 0V, and a big big diode on each branch end to your DC, this will
give you about 78Volts DC. You can also use half of two bridge rectifiers.
Mine in 3.3KVA cost something like £30 off ebay, they are cheap because they
are bulk manufactured, a normal transformer in this size is going to be
hundreds of pounds.

Is there an Finish embargo to the USA?
Welcome to the real world - Buy from anywhere like we do.
Jeez we've been paying 1$=1£ for far too long - 'bout time the boot was
on the other foot.
No sympathy from the UK...
