Philip,
Yes, that particular is certainly "advertorial". Much of it is true
only when considering the IMserv products.
And much of what's there regarding steppers is blatantly incorrect.
(Such as servos "inherently" have a higher resolution than steppers.)
The Gecko site paper comparison posted earlier in this thread is
closer to the truth.
Over the years; I've come to the following over-simplifications:
Servos are faster because they maintain their torque to higher
speeds.
They are harder to set up and install (if only for having more wires
and necessary adjustments).
Servos generally fault without trashing the part.(Generally becaure
a broken encoder wire and all bets are off!)
Servos usually cost more.
Steppers are simple, inexpensive, effective and reliable, but their
open loop operation requires care in design of the application.
