Thanks Wayne, I'm leaning towards a interference or press fit of a stub'd shaft into a bored hole in the existing shaft.. as you say, chuck the armature, bore the tail, press in a extension and if need be machine back true.
The motor is the exact same as a servo motor of the same manufacture, just that it doesn't have the tail shaft.. I think it was used for running a conveyor or something that didn't need feedback as to its speed. I could go back to the manufacture and buy them direct from them w/ the proper tail shaft but they'd be over twice the money.. :-)
