software for 3d printer

Hi All,
I've being poking around a home made 3d printer for while,the most
important thing is the software to slice the stl. and output it to a
printer format in sequency.
I've tried a software that can do that don't remember the name of it
but it was about 4K Euros.
Is there any other software to slice and output it to a regular
printer?
