Hello,
FWIW, SolidWorks (though not inexpensive by a LONG shot) exports to
STL files directly.
I see quite a bit about Solidworks being used in DIY-CNC related
forums online'; so more than a few folks must have access at work,
or...
The student version (when and if you can find a copy) is within the
means of a hobbyist contemplating the other costs of an endeavor
like this.
