I don't know anything about a Fanuc 3m, but I just got done
converting a 1987 CNC knee mill from the original Allen Bradley
control to Mach 3. The total cost is under $800 and that does not
count the $300 I sold the Allen Bradley for.

If the drives are good, you can use a Pixie 100 to convert from step
and direction to +-10V. You can read about the conversion here:

I was able to rapid at 125 IPM with the AB control, but I can now
move at 275 IPM with Mach 3.
