Start by reading many of the posts in the Mach3 Video Probing Forum at
http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/board,67.0.html . Lots of
beginners there so I tend to get verbose in an effort to educate.

Happy to help any way that I can. I especially would like to see some
software work done, but not by me. I prefer to create hardware that is
easy for DIY reproduction and share technical info.

Mach3 is the only software that I know about that works with this type
of 3d Video Probe using a webcam and a laser line. The Mach3 Video Probe
plugin is not as friendly or as accurate as it could be. I have seen no
work done on the plugin software since last Decemeber.

Motion speed is not an issue since movement is usually a very small
distance, then stop, then grab a camera frame and process the frame,
then repeat as necessry. High speed is really only usable during
flyback, before starting the next scan. Bidirectional scanning is
possible but the effects of backlash then become an issue.

I discribe some desirable, IMHO, 3d scanning characteristics on the
Mach3 Video Probing Forum.

I can claim some professional expertise in designing laser based
non-contact measurement equipment. However, I am not trying to do
anything commercial here. I just want to see amateurs doing inexpensive
3d video scanning. I am willing to share info and provide guidance for
anybody working on software or hardware.
