You might check out the connectors available from Mouser
(www.mouser.com). They have reasonable pricing, huge selection, and
fast delivery with no minimums. You can download data sheets from the website for most products. They
also have a great search feature where you can search by part number,
or description (micro-con for example).
For motor connectors I am using Conxall connectors which are
plastic with fixed pins and solder cups to attach the wires. They have
a bayonet type latching feature to prevent unplugging when not wanted.
These come in three different sizes, micro-con, mini-con, and and
multi-con, each with different wire size ranges and current ratings.
For encoder and limit switch connectors I am using DB type connectors (DB9 or DB15 mostly). These are the type connectors used for serial and parallel ports on most computers, and they offer reasonable current ratings (up to 5 A), either fixed pins with solder cups, PC mount, or crimp replaceable pins. They have easily assembled strain reliefs with screws to prevent unplugging if desired (you should desire this), and are quite inexpensive. One word of caution, study the data sheets carefully since you can get a 15 pin connector in at least two different shell sizes (DB9 or DB15 size). You may be familiar with the 15 pin version in a DB9 shell since most computer monitors use this type. The DB15 shell has only two rows of pins rather than three rows, and as a result is a wider connector. These connectors do require a slightly more challenging mounting hole in the panel since it is not round or D shape, but still possible with a little filing. Of course
once you have your CNC then you can cut the holes easily.
