Hmm,
I use a hand held oxy-acetylene torch, used it today in fact. I didn't use it to cut, I was bending steel with it. Heat the metal up and bend it around a jig. Brings up a point, I wonder if Jim's torch height control would work with an oxy-acetylene torch. Also, why are you fixed on oxy-acetylene? I really think plasma is better. If you must use oxy-acetylene get a good torch. A better torch will result in less maintenace and down time.
Take care,
Lindsay

Thanks, interesting points! I forgot to mention that were going to be using oxy-acetylene for ours though, sorry. Any ideas on an oxy-acetylene machine torch?

Decide on the thickness of the material you intend to cut and then pick your plasma cutter. The 1250 is the largest machine that Hypertherm makes that used 220 V. They are the leader in plasma cutters, that's all they make. I don't work for them but I like their machine. I'd suggest buying as powerful a cutter as you can afford. It will allow you to make faster cuts. Plug the 1250 into 240 volts and add compressed air, cheaper and more precise (smaller kerf) than oxy-acetylene.
