Ah, well, my machine is not a stock Bridgeport, far from it. I have a
ball screw attached
where the usual stop ring went, and so it likely acts as a pretty stiff
guide preventing rotation of the
quill. A good point, though, on a stock Bridgeport head the quill may
not be tightly restrained
from rotation.

I know that this works well, as I have done some circuit board drilling
with .018" carbide
drills, and even .001" shift would have broken those for sure.
