"microphone"? What, like a 3.5mm 2-wire headphone jack?

You don't want something which isn't screwed down. Getting pulled out
while running would be bad news. DB9 jacks are pretty common,
GeckoDrive builds these into their controller.

Or wait, I guess you mean the 4-wire jack that Radio Shack has as a
bulkhead jack used for CB mikes. They're uncommon and rather expensive.

I imagine you want something longer than you'd find inside a power
supply! Thickness isn't a big issue, but flexibility is.

2.5A 270oz-in steppers on a 24v power supply sounds like a pretty darn
"light" router. Well, it'll probably run, just not very fast. Any
controller hacked together which, well, isn't a GeckoDrive, is typically
seriously underperforming and kinda obsolete because GeckoDrives aren't
that expensive.

I want to mount this all in an enclosure, the motors will be connected via a "microphone" type coupling. My question is, what wire gauge do I use? Is the wire harvested from an old computer atx power supply ok? Or do I need something thicker?
