16 AWG wire would be sufficient for the power to the power supply if it is rated
at 8 amps in. 18 AWG would be more than sufficient for the 2.5 amp motors.
Just be certain the voltage rating for the insulation is higher than the
voltages being used. Also, make certain the connector you are using can be
attached with either a twist collar or screws. From your other posts I think
you have that covered. Make certain you use MTW or other flexible stranded
wire. The harmonic vibrations on any machine can crack and cause solid wire to
break inside the insulation, that is often rather difficult to find.

Hi all,

I am ready to wire my 2.5A stepper controllers, 24v 8A power supply and 270
oz/in motors for my router. I want to mount this all in an enclosure, the motors
will be connected via a "microphone" type coupling. My question is, what wire
gauge do I use? Is the wire harvested from an old computer atx power supply ok?
Or do I need something thicker?
