The external wire I picture from a power supply would be too short to
use, unless you spliced multiple pieces together, which is a bad idea.
We have an Altex electronics here which sells all types of wire. I
ended up using Canare cable for some, very flexible. A bit thick
though, and a bit expensive.
Most people just use the 22ga or even 24ga stranded 4-conductor
alarm/station wire. Comes with a gray/sorta-tan sheath. It doesn't
need to be the shielded stuff. IIRC the stuff I have is made by
Belkin. And to be honest I've never heard of the wire itself coming
apart being a problem.
