More like 10.000 counts to 300.000 counts.
They position more accurately, thus they are more accurate.
Even very basic servos position to well better than 1/1000 of a
revolution, upto very much better depending on how much you spend, I
suppose.
Using a servo on a lathe will absolutely deliver more accuracy, to
about 1 micron levels.
Whether one can use or need that, depends.
For me, with lathes, absolutely yes.
Whether you can use the accuracy is another matter, as I said re: mill.
A mill is limited to about 0.01 mm, so improving the (actual) resolution
is useless.
