New users should not try to get a machine running on a R-Pi right now.
Everything is
quite experimental. The Intel Atom CPU on the D525MW board is only
slightly more
expensive, and is a tested solution with a "factory" download. See
www.linuxcnc.org for more info.

The D525MW has a standard parallel port, so you can run software step
generation
if you must, or several controller/interfaces that connect through the
parallel port.

I've been using EMC, then EMC2 and now LinuxCNC for 14 years now, it is
a very professional and reliable motion control package, and I have
never had it
fail in that time.
