I've only now ....... discovered free CNC programs out there that are
written in Basic. While they may not interpret complex G codes, there are a
number of wonderful advantages to using them;

- being DOS based, it means that even your P2 will run them ;-)
- with the source available/written in Basic, it means you can alter/edit
the program to your hearts desire
- there are free Basic compilers too, so you ship a board with a .exe if
you want 'security'
- you can add hooks, alarms or anything you want to the Basic program while
developing/testing your application
- the compiled version should still be fast enough to get reasonable speed
on a stepper based system

In your case, it will be a bit of work to peruse the code and edit out the
other axes.
