I guess I am looking for the details that the manufacturer does not provide as we can all go to their sites and get the basic specs of travel, tool changers, etc. Our long term goal is to quantify the measurable specifications that will affect the performance of the mechanical of the machine. Not interested in making any comparisons of the CNC controls, just the mechanics. 

Our ultimate purpose with this is to identify the weaknesses of each machine and see if we can design an upgrade solution to improve it. As an example, I am pretty sure (but have not tested it) that on a Sherline you get flex in the mount of the headstock to the mounting plate as it is held on by a single steel pin that is about 3/16" at the smallest stressed point. If this is true it would be a relatively easy item to make an upgrade to improve.
