I tend to agree that the pin can be a weak point but, in the 3+ years I've had the Sherline lathe, mill and the TAIG mill, the most egregious problem with any of them is the TAIG's rotary joint for the Z-axis. I solved that problem (take a look in the files/photos section for what I did. I have, in error, programmed 0.1" depth cut at 5 ipm feed in brass and not budged the column. It did slide the work piece out from under the clamps (A2Z clamps by the way but not their fault).

The TAIG under CNC control, seems to be OK up to about 3/16 cutters on plunge cuts, above that, even with my modifications, things start vibrating. (MeshCam has no ramp-in function.)

How about a concrete & epoxy kit that I could use to fill the square tubes and suppress vibrations? That seems to work for Haas in their larger machine tools.

The Sherline mill is hard put to use a 1/4" end mill on a short, very short shaft without the vertical column flexing. I'd like to see an adaptation of the lathe's aluminum base fastened to the steel ways to reinforce them? Or maybe adapt a TAIG-like square steel tube to support (well, actually be) the column?
