What elliptical path? The spinning bit removes a cone-shaped volume of material,
and the feed moves this cone along a straight path; you end up with a sharp (as
sharp as the tip of the bit...) vee cut, whose included angle depends on the
cone angle and the relative angle between the cone axis (spindle) and the feed
direction.
