I built the ultimate primitive version, just a DC power supply, resistor
and capacitors.
I have only used it so far to burn out taps broken off in parts. It
works great
(although slowly) for that. There are metals that are so hard that it
is VERY
difficult to machine them. There are shapes that are very hard to
produce
with the traditional tools available. A good example is a die from a
punch
and die set. A round die is pretty easy, a square die is much harder,
due
to the sharp internal corners. EDM makes this rather easy to do.
