EMC, Linux, RTlinux, General Questions

I was wondering why the EMC, Linux, and RTlinux combo uses redhat
5.2... I was looking over the linux 5.2 hardware compatability list
and the IDE controllors look a little dated. I get the impression
that only IDE ATA33 controlors are supported. Also video cards are
a little old. As i would be building a system from scratch i would
prefer not to start by building an obsolete system.


Another important point is the lack of ISA slots on modern
motherboards. It now becomes a problem to add a parallel port or 2
to your system with 1 or no ISA slots. I tried to find a referance
to PCI parallel port support but found nothing. Does any one know if
PCI paralell ports are supported. I would prefer not to use the
paralell port on my motherboard in case i burn it out, and would also
like to save it for printing. I know you can buy ISA paralell port
cards that have 2 ports on 1 card but with only 1 ISA slot available
you are out of options at that point.
