stripped distribution for emc

Hi Paul,
I have been thinking along the same lines. I think that getting a cdrom with
emc ready to roll would really help out getting more interest. It is a
daunting task for a newbie to linux to do things like patching the kernel,
configuring and building a kernel.... its not that it is hard to do, but
there is so much new terminology to understand. I have been working with
Redhat since the 5.2 release and would be happy to help test your releases.
I have a cd burner, so if you have a site where you can post an iso image, I
can make a cd and install on a clean box.
Most emc boxes will probably be dedicated to machine control... I would try
and leave as much of the standard RH install stuff as possible. I was
looking at just trying to replace the kernel image and installing emc as
part of a normal workstation install. This could even be done through a lilo
selected dual boot (regular kernel or realtime kernel). The emc source,
rtkernel patch and the matching kernel sources should be part of the install
so that once things are up and running, the user has all the information
available to do any wanted customizations. The more standard the
distribution is, the less documentation has to be written by us.
