I'd have to agree about those problems with interchange formats as well as
CAD drawings having incorrect dimensions!
I tried sending a CAD drawing in several formats....dxf, .dwg, and .stl.
The customer said he'd be able to open all of them. He couldn't open any
and finally I had to resort to sending jpg files!
As for the dimensioning, a lot of the errors crop up due to not being able
to see the entire drawing at one time as I've mentioned before. Also,
really experienced draftspersons can draw faster using a drawing board for
the same reason.
Also, for a really simple drawing, I can have it drawn (so can you if it's
simple enuf to be done with a sketch) before my drawing program even
finishes loading.
