After having to do programming without the help of a cadcam to make
a living,I've got to know the advantages over using the cadcam,
1- you get the blue print and starts to program.
with a dxf. file on a cadcam you need to check for drawing errors
like, lines that are not connect, circles that are not circles and so
on,by the time you get around this, you could get the programming
donne by hand. That's thrue for simple parts or 2 1/2d parts.
2- You can machine the way you want not the way the cadcam wants.
Eliminating movements that are not necessary.
3- You really knows what is going on,so to make changes on the
program like to compensate for toll wear to bring the parts back to
tol. is much easyer.
4- the most important of all, you're good! if the computer goes down
you can program a new part in the same time you did before.and you
won't be pulling your hair out if the cadcam or computer crashes.
Shure, for more complex 3d parts sometimes there is no way around it
without a cadcam,but for something like 2 1/2 d parts the $5.000 for
a good cadcam can be spared and invested on more machines or tolling.
