Assuming the lilo.conf file is correct and the kernel is in the right
place (it is not moved when the kernel is built, you have to do that),
login as root and type 'lilo' or '/sbin/lilo' if your path is messed up.
It should make the drive bootable.

A good precaution is to move the old kernel to a different name (e.g.
vmlinuz.old or whatever) before moving the newly built kernel into the
root directory so you can recover in case the new kernel was
messed up.
