Thanks for the excellent site. Lots of good lathe beginner information. I
agree with your comments and think that you can always modify a lathe to be
what you want. The lathe I purchased did not have a threading dial, so I
already designed an electronic version of a threading dial, but to my
surprise when I opened the crate, the lathe I recieved had a threading dial.
I'll probably modify where I can, and accept what I can't.
Has anyone seen a 5" 4-jaw chuck that bolts on a permanent spindle
backplate with 3 screws. I think it's common on many chinese lathes. The
chuck is indented in the rear to auto center when bolting on. I could, of
course, use the 3-jaw to turn out an indentation in a 5" 4-jaw plain mount
chuck if I can't find the real one.
