Very well stated!!!!
The problem with much of this low end junk is the buyers are defining
the quality at a much too low level. Silly magazines like Home Shop
Machinist are further complicating things by constantly publishing
articles on how to rebuild NEW machines, which tends to make the
novice think that "kits" are an acceptable standard for the machine
tools.
I wish people that take so much pride in their rebuilding would
realize they aren't doing themselves or anyone else (except the
manufacturers) a favor. All it does is encourage more poor quality
from the factories.
Incidently, the vast, vast majority of the world's high precison
machine tools are now made in third world countries (even some
Hardinge models) so they are easily capable of doing better. Too few
seem to be demanding it, though.
